Memorabilia-Ancestor Quilt This is a spiritually based quilt workshop in which we will commemorate those who have gone before us OR celebrate any signifecant occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. We will asemble a very small quilt (approx. 12"x14"), using significant fabric, such as from old clothing, neckties, etc. and sewing it to a photo transfer (of the honored person) as a beautiful border and then layering it with batting and backing. then we will finish by attaching memorabilia, such as buttons, beads, old jewelry, labels from clothing or silk flowers by hand sewing or gluing. We will close with a ceremonial circle of gratitude and Blessings.

Mixed Media Art Quilts Mixed media quilts can make a bold artistic statement by combining tradional quilting techniques with expressionistic imagery and materials. We use and intuitive approach to creating a pictorial quilt by encouraging journal writing to stimulate the creative process and promote freedom with the use of fabric. Drawings are translated into fabric using paper, pen, Wonder Under and scissors. With our sewing machines, we use satin stitch to finish the applique and then experiment with embellishments such as buttons and beads. We also explore acrylic paints and squeeze bottle painting techniques on fabric. Slides are shown and students are able to share some of their previous artwork for inspiration. Quilted Portraits Make a wonderful fantasy portrait quilt! Start with a very simple drawing of a face (like kindergarten) on an 8 inch square paper. This will be repeated 16 times using a basic machine applique technique. We will be using fusibe interfacing to anchor the pieces. It will be similar to putting a jig-saw puzzle together 16 times! (but we will be using fabric) Then we will use the satin stitch on the sewing machine for the applique. We will use buttons or beads for the eyes and acrylic or fabric paint for other embellishments such as the noses and mouths.

Embellished Self Portrait Doll This class is a special time to reflect on who we are and what we are really like--it is a time to get to know ourselves by making a small embellished doll using fabric, buttons, beads, embroidery, painted fabric, Wonder Under and braids. We will be using a very simple, basic pattern for the figure, and explore and share ourselves while constructing with needle and thread, and stuffing.

Painting and Embellishing on Fabric
In this workshop we will be brushing acrylic paint and squeezing squeeze-bottle paint onto fabric squares. We will make our own rubber stamps and stamp with acrylic paint. We will glue buttons, jewels, silk flowers, ribbons, lace--anything that can be attached to fabric--we will embellish!! these fabric squares can be included in an art quilt or they can be framed and hung on the wall. Wear comfortable clothes and bring your imagination!
